Retire Your Ride
Retire Your Ride is a program designed to enable people to get their high-polluting cars off the road and reward them for doing so. Through the Commuter Challenge people can experience sustainable commuting to help them see how easy and enjoyable it can be, encouraging them to retire their older, higher polluting vehicles. Retire your Ride will assist Road Map Saskatoon in recruiting workplaces and promoting the event, as well as providing the Grand prize of a Rocky Mountain Metropolis bike.
Retire Your Ride – Canada’s Vehicle Recycling Program, is delivered by Summerhill Impact and its partners with financial support from the Government of Canada. The Saskatchewan Environmental Society is the delivering agency in Saskatchewan. The program is committed to improving air quality by responsibly recycling vehicles and aims to retire at least 50,000 vehicles per year until March 31, 2011. Did you know that 1995 model year and older vehicles produce 19 times more smog-forming pollutants than 2004 and newer models? By retiring vehicles earlier, you’ll be helping reduce harmful emissions. By ensuring that vehicles are properly recycled, we can prevent the release of toxins into the environment. If you have a car that needs retiring, we’ll recycle its parts in an environmentally responsible way, and reward you for it. The Retire Your Ride program in Saskatchewan offers up to $3300 worth of different reward incentives that encourage participants to use more sustainable methods of transportation.
